Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Forming the Patties

Take the ground beef and divide it into two equal portions. Form each portion into a ball without overworking the meat.

  2. 2

    Seasoning

Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly over both sides of the beef balls.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Heating the Skillet

Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until it’s hot.

  2. 4

    Smashing the Patties

Place the beef balls onto the hot skillet and immediately smash them down using a sturdy spatula to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cook for about 2-3 minutes.

  3. 5

    Flipping the Patties

Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the cheese melts and the patties are cooked through.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Toasting the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on the skillet.

  2. 7

    Layering Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, add a layer of lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, sliced tomatoes, onions, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste.

  3. 8

    Finishing the Burger

Place the top half of the bun over the assembled burger. Your Smash Burger is now ready to serve!
