Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Equipment

Gather a large pot with a lid, measuring cups, and a stirring spoon.

  2. 2

    Measure Ingredients

Measure 1 cup of popcorn kernels and set aside. Also, measure 2 tablespoons of cooking oil and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In the large pot, add the cooking oil and place it over medium heat. Allow the oil to heat for about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 4

    Test the Oil

To check if the oil is hot enough, add 2-3 popcorn kernels to the pot and cover it. Wait for them to pop.

  3. 5

    Add Popcorn Kernels

Once the test kernels have popped, add the rest of the popcorn kernels to the pot. Quickly cover the pot with the lid.

  4. 6

    Pop the Corn

Shake the pot occasionally to ensure even popping and to prevent burning. Continue until the popping slows down to about 2-3 seconds between pops, which should take about 3-5 minutes.

  5. 7

    Season the Popcorn

Once popping has slowed, remove the pot from heat. Carefully remove the lid (watch for steam) and sprinkle the popcorn with salt. If using, drizzle with melted butter and mix well.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Warm

Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl or individual serving bowls. Add any optional toppings like cheese powder or cinnamon sugar if desired.

  2. 9

    Enjoy!

Serve immediately while warm and enjoy your homemade popcorn!
