Method
Cooking the Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the long-grain white rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse it under cold water for about 2-3 minutes until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps keep the rice from becoming sticky.
- 2
Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.
- 3
Add the Rice
Carefully add the rinsed rice to the boiling water. Stir once to prevent clumping.
- 4
Simmer the Rice
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid during this time.
Finishing Touches

Add Butter
Once the rice is cooked, remove the saucepan from heat. Add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the rice and let it melt. Gently fluff the rice with a fork to incorporate the butter evenly.
- 6
Add Optional Ingredients
If desired, stir in chopped fresh parsley and season with black pepper to taste. Mix well to combine.
- 7
Serve
Transfer the buttered rice to a serving bowl and enjoy as a delicious side dish.
