Blackberry Chai Syrup

CBD & Seltzer Assembly

Method

Blackberry Chai Syrup

  1. 1

    Cook fruit

Place the blackberries and 1 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries break down and the liquid turns deep purple, about 6–8 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add sugar and spices

Add the granulated sugar, chai tea, cloves, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and a pinch of salt to the pan. Stir to dissolve the sugar, reduce heat to low, and let the mixture gently simmer for 6–8 minutes so the chai spices infuse and the syrup slightly reduces.

  3. 3

    Strain and finish

Remove from heat. Using a fine-mesh sieve, strain the syrup into a heatproof bowl or jar, pressing on solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid and flavor as possible. Discard solids. Stir in the lemon juice. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold (about 30–45 minutes). The syrup will keep in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

CBD & Seltzer Assembly

  1. 4

    Chill glass

Fill a tall glass with ice to chill while you prepare the drink. If you prefer served without ice, skip or halve the ice amount.

  2. 5

    Measure syrup

Spoon or pour 1.5 tablespoons (approx. 22 ml) of the chilled blackberry chai syrup into the prepared glass. Taste and adjust: use 1 tablespoon for a lighter flavor or 2 tablespoons for a fruitier drink.

  3. 6

    Add CBD

Add the CBD tincture amount appropriate for the serving (the recipe lists 20 mg CBD per serving). If using a tincture with concentration by drop, measure according to the product label to reach ~20 mg. Stir gently once to combine with the syrup.

  4. 7

    Top with seltzer

Pour 12 oz cold seltzer slowly into the glass over the back of a spoon to preserve carbonation. Stir gently once or twice to combine syrup, CBD, and seltzer.

  5. 8

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with 2 blackberries skewered or placed in the glass, a lemon wheel or twist, and a fresh mint sprig if desired. Serve immediately. Note: CBD effects can take 20–90 minutes to onset depending on individual factors.
