Method
Preparation of Meat
- 1
Cook the Ground Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Preparation of Corn Bread
- 2
Make the Corn Bread Batter
In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- 3
Bake the Corn Bread
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish. Pour the batter into the baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Serving the Meal
- 4
Assemble the Meal
Slice the corn bread into squares and serve alongside the cooked ground beef and the two pints of coleslaw and baked beans.
