House Rub Preparation
- 1
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
Cooking the Pulled Pork
- 2
Prepare the Pork Shoulder
Rub the house rub generously all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's well coated. Cover and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best flavor.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Preheat your slow cooker or oven to 250°F (121°C). Place the marinated pork shoulder in the cooker, add apple cider vinegar and water. Cover and cook for 8-10 hours, until the meat is tender and easily shreds.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the cooker and let it rest for 20 minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
- 5
Serve
Mix the shredded pork with BBQ sauce and serve on a plate with your choice of sides.
