Preparation
- 1
Choose Your Fabric
Select 5 yards of fabric in various colors and patterns for your quilt.
- 2
Cut the Fabric
Using your rotary cutter and cutting mat, cut the fabric into squares or desired shapes, typically 6x6 inches.
- 3
Prepare the Batting
Unroll the batting and cut it to the same size as your quilt top once assembled.
Assembly
- 4
Sew the Squares Together
Arrange your fabric squares in a desired pattern and sew them together using your sewing machine. Make sure to press seams open with your iron as you go for a flat finish.
- 5
Attach Batting
Once the top is assembled, place the batting underneath and pin it in place.
- 6
Sew the Layers Together
Sew through all three layers (top, batting, backing) to secure them together. You can do this by stitching in the ditch or creating a quilting pattern.
- 7
Bind the Edges
Cut strips of fabric for binding the edges of your quilt and sew them around the perimeter to finish the edges neatly.
