Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs. Add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Ganache Directions

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer, but do not let it boil.

  2. 9

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove the pan from the heat and add the semisweet chocolate chips and unsalted butter to the cream. Let it sit for a few minutes to melt.

  3. 10

    Stir Until Smooth

Whisk the mixture until smooth and glossy. Allow the ganache to cool slightly before using.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Pour half of the ganache over the first layer, spreading it evenly. Place the second layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.

  5. 12

    Serve

Slice the cake into pieces and serve. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
