Ice Cream Base
Method
Making the Ice Cream
- 1
Prepare the Ice Cream Base
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 2
Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the mixture to become very cold.
- 3
Churn the Ice Cream
Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- 4
Add Mix-Ins
If desired, add any mix-ins such as chocolate chips, fruit, or nuts during the last few minutes of churning.
- 5
Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
