Preparation
- 1
Mix the Dry Rub
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to form a dry rub.
- 2
Prepare the Brisket
Trim any excess fat from the brisket and rub the dry mixture all over the meat. Make sure to coat it evenly, getting into any crevices.
Cooking
- 3
Sear the Brisket
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat a couple of tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the brisket on all sides until browned (about 4-5 minutes per side).
- 4
Add Liquid Ingredients
Transfer the seared brisket to a slow cooker. In a separate bowl, mix together beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker.
- 5
Slow Cook the Brisket
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the brisket is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Serving
- 6
Shred the Brisket
Once the brisket is cooked, carefully remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
