Crust Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
Mix Crust Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar, and melted butter. Stir until the mixture is well combined and resembles wet sand.
- 3
Form the Crust
Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie pan to form an even crust.
- 4
Bake the Crust
Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
Filling Preparation
- 5
Prepare Filling Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, egg yolks, and lime zest until smooth and well combined.
- 6
Fill the Crust
Pour the filling mixture into the cooled crust and spread it evenly.
- 7
Bake the Filling
Bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes, just until the filling is set. Remove from the oven and let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- 8
Chill the Pie
Once cooled, refrigerate the pie for at least 2 hours to allow it to set completely.
Topping Preparation
- 9
Make Whipped Cream
In a medium bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until it begins to thicken.
- 10
Add Sugar
Add the powdered sugar and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
- 11
Top the Pie
Spread or pipe the whipped cream evenly over the top of the chilled pie.
- 12
Garnish
Sprinkle lime zest over the whipped cream for garnish before serving.
