Method
Chicken Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring they are fully submerged in the buttermilk mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. This will be the breading for the chicken.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Batter the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade and allow excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the breaded chicken breasts into the hot oil. Fry for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C). Remove and drain on paper towels.
Hot Honey Preparation
- 6
Make the Hot Honey
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the honey and red pepper flakes. Stir until well combined and heated through. Remove from heat and set aside.
Honey Slaw Preparation
- 7
Prepare the Slaw
In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, grated carrot, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
