Chili Ingredients

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef

Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

  3. 3

    Add the Spices and Liquids

Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and pour in the canned diced tomatoes and beef broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Add Beans

Add the kidney beans and black beans to the pot. Stir to combine and let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cornbread Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare Cornbread

While the chili is simmering, prepare the cornbread according to the package instructions. Bake in the oven until golden brown.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Chili

Once the chili has thickened and the flavors have melded, serve hot in bowls. Top each bowl with shredded cheddar cheese and chopped green onions.

  2. 7

    Pair with Cornbread

Slice the cornbread and serve alongside the chili for a complete meal.
