Method
Cocktail Preparation
- 1
Combine ingredients
Add 2 oz Jim Beam bourbon, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.75 oz cold water, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 0.25 oz maraschino liqueur, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, and 1 egg white to a cocktail shaker.
- 2
Dry shake
Without ice, shake the mixture vigorously for about 15–20 seconds. This emulsifies the egg white and builds a silky foam.
- 3
Wet shake
Add large ice cubes to the shaker and shake vigorously for another 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker becomes very cold and the drink is well chilled.
- 4
Fine strain
Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or old-fashioned glass (use a fine mesh strainer over a Hawthorne strainer) to remove ice shards and produce a smooth texture.
Finish & Serve
- 5
Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist on the rim, and optionally grate a light dusting of fresh nutmeg over the foam.
- 6
Serve immediately. The drink yields a silky, frothy bourbon cocktail in the style popularized in mid-20th century cocktail culture — approximately one serving.
