Method

Preparing the Beef Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Use your hands to mix until just combined; do not overmix.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Beef Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, you may add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the beef patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the patties reach your desired doneness.

Toasting the Buns

  1. 5

    Butter the Buns

While the patties are cooking, spread butter on the cut sides of the hamburger buns.

  2. 6

    Toast the Buns

Place the buttered buns, cut side down, on the grill or skillet until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

Assembling the Cheeseburger

  1. 7

    Prepare the Toppings

Slice the tomato and onion. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

  2. 8

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked beef patty with melted cheese, slices of tomato, and onion. Top with the other half of the bun.
