Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (not hot) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Cooking the Flatbread

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while the dough rises.

  2. 7

    Shape the Flatbreads

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

If desired, brush each flatbread with olive oil, and sprinkle with minced garlic, fresh herbs, and sea salt.

  4. 9

    Bake the Flatbreads

Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.

  5. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
