Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. Rinse the cut potatoes in cold water to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes to an hour. This helps to make the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry Potatoes

Once soaked, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of dried potato strips to the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 6

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  5. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to coat.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the fries hot as a side dish or snack. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!
