Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Prepare the Fettuccine Noodles
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fettuccine noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 2
Drain and Set Aside
Once the noodles are cooked, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water, then drain the noodles in a colander. Set aside while you prepare the sauce.
Making the Sauce
- 3
Melt Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it is fully melted and begins to foam.
- 4
- 5
Add Heavy Cream
Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally and let it cook for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- 6
Incorporate Parmesan Cheese
Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until it is fully melted and the sauce is creamy. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
- 7
Season the Sauce
Add salt and black pepper to taste, mixing well.
Combining Pasta and Sauce
- 8
Combine Fettuccine and Sauce
Add the cooked fettuccine noodles directly to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss gently to coat the noodles evenly in the sauce. If needed, add more pasta water to help the sauce adhere to the noodles.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Remove from heat, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve immediately with additional Parmesan cheese on the side if desired.
