Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Prepare Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Topping Preparation
- 5
Prepare Tomatoes
Slice the fresh tomatoes into thin rounds and sprinkle with salt to taste. Set aside to let the flavors develop.
- 6
Prepare Cheese
Tear the fresh mozzarella into small pieces or slice it into rounds.
Pizza Assembly
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest setting (around 475°F or 245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 8
Shape Dough
After the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll or stretch it into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 9
Add Toppings
Carefully transfer the shaped dough onto a pizza peel or parchment paper. Drizzle olive oil over the surface and layer the sliced tomatoes and mozzarella evenly. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
- 10
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 11
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve while hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
