Patty Melt - Ingredients

Method

Patty Melt - Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare mayo and bread

Spread mayonnaise on one side of each rye bread slice and set aside.

  2. 2

    Caramelize onions

In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add the sliced onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are soft and caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt.

  3. 3

    Season the patty

Form the ground beef into a patty about 1/2 inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

  4. 4

    Cook the patty

In a skillet over medium heat, sear the seasoned patty until browned on the bottom, about 3–4 minutes per side for medium, flipping once. Remove from heat.

  5. 5

    Assemble the melt

Place one slice of bread mayo-side-down on the skillet. Layer with Swiss cheese, the cooked patty, and caramelized onions. Top with the remaining cheese if desired, then place the second bread slice on top, mayo-side-out.

  6. 6

    Grill the sandwich

Cook until the bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, pressing lightly and flipping once if needed, about 2–4 minutes per side.

  7. 7

    Rest and serve

Remove from pan, let rest for 1–2 minutes, then slice in half and serve hot.
