Method
Prepare Glass
- 1
Salt the rim (optional)
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and gently press the rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
Build Cocktail
- 2
Fill a cocktail shaker with cubed ice (about 1 cup).
- 3
Add 2 oz blanco tequila (well), 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.5 oz orange liqueur into the shaker.
- 4
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the mixture is well chilled and diluted.
- 5
If serving as a traditional margarita: strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer or the shaker’s strainer into the salted rocks glass over fresh ice. If serving straight up: double-strain into the pre-chilled coupe or martini glass without ice.
- 6
If you prefer a lighter, spritz-style well tequila cocktail: pour the shaken mix into a highball glass filled with fresh ice and top with about 1 oz club soda; gently stir once to combine.
Garnish & Serve
- 7
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim or floated on top. Serve immediately.
