Cocktail Base (per serving)

Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Build & Shake

Add the blended scotch, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice (about 3/4 full). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted. Shaking chills and dilutes the mixture to the proper balance.

  2. 2

    Strain & Top

Place a large ice cube (or fill a rocks glass with fresh ice) and double-strain the shaken mixture into the glass to remove small ice chips and any pulp. Top with approximately 2 oz club soda to lighten the drink and give a gentle effervescence. If serving in a highball, use fresh ice and a taller glass and adjust club soda accordingly.

  3. 3

    Finish & Garnish

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters over the top if using, then garnish with a lemon wheel or a lemon twist expressed over the drink and dropped in. Serve immediately with a short stir (1–2 gentle turns) if desired, to integrate the soda without flattening the carbonation.

Notes & Variations

  1. 4

For a slightly sweeter profile, increase simple syrup to 0.75 oz. For a more spirit-forward well scotch cocktail, reduce club soda to 1 oz. Substitute fresh lime juice for lemon for a sharper citrus character. If making multiple servings, multiply ingredient quantities and shake in batches (do not overfill shaker).
