For the Country Fried Steak

For the White Gravy

For Assembly

Method

Prepare the Country Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Tenderize the Steak

Pound the beef round steak to about 1/2 inch thickness using a meat mallet.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In one bowl, combine buttermilk, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, place the flour.

  3. 3

    Bread the Steak

Dip each piece of steak into the buttermilk mixture, then coat it with flour, shaking off excess.

  4. 4

    Fry the Steak

Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded steak until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

Make the White Gravy

  1. 5

    Cook the Sausage

In the same skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned.

  2. 6

    Make the Roux

Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.

  3. 7

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 8

    Layer Ingredients

On each biscuit, place a piece of fried steak, top with a fried egg, and drizzle with white gravy.

  2. 9

    Garnish

Add pickled peppers on top or on the side, as desired.
