Method

Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. You may not need all the water.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

After chilling, roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit your pie or tart pan.

  5. 5

    Pre-Bake the Crust

Transfer the rolled dough to the pan, press it in, and prick the bottom with a fork. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.

Horseradish Topping Preparation

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the prepared horseradish, cream cheese, sour cream, chopped chives, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 7

    Mix Until Smooth

Using a hand mixer or spatula, mix the ingredients until smooth and well combined.

  3. 8

    Spread on the Crust

Once the crust is cooled, spread the horseradish mixture evenly over the crust.

  4. 9

    Chill Before Serving

Refrigerate the tart for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
