Cornbread Croutons

Method

Prepare Cornbread Croutons

  1. 1

    Make the Cornbread

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Pour into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.

  2. 2

    Bake the Cornbread

Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool, then cut into small cubes for croutons.

  3. 3

    Toast the Croutons

Spread cornbread cubes on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes until crispy. Set aside to cool.

Prepare Dressing

  1. 4

    Mix the Dressing

In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, anchovy paste, and black pepper until well combined.

Assemble Salad

  1. 5

    Prepare the Romaine

Wash and dry the hearts of romaine, then chop into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a large salad bowl, combine the chopped romaine, croutons, and grated Parmesan cheese.

  3. 7

    Dress the Salad

Drizzle the prepared dressing over the salad and toss gently to combine, ensuring all ingredients are coated.

  4. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Enjoy your Caesar Salad!
