Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brussels Sprouts

Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves. Cut them in half lengthwise.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet, cook the Old Major jowl bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, reserving the drippings in the pan.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté the Brussels Sprouts

In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, add the halved Brussels sprouts. Sauté over medium-high heat for about 6-8 minutes until they are golden brown and tender. Stir occasionally.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Bourbon Glaze

In a small saucepan, combine the bourbon, brown sugar, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let it cook for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  3. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Once the Brussels sprouts are cooked, add the crispy bacon back into the skillet and pour the bourbon glaze over the mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  4. 6

    Add Cheese

Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle the Maytag blue cheese crumbles over the top of the Brussels sprouts. Allow the residual heat to slightly melt the cheese.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Transfer the glazed Brussels sprouts to a serving dish and drizzle any remaining glaze over the top. Serve warm.
