Potatoes

Dipping Sauce (optional)

Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Cut each potato into evenly sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure uniform cooking.

  3. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes them crispier.

Frying the Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

Drain the soaked fries and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder while hot.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve with Dipping Sauce

Serve the freshly made fries hot with your choice of dipping sauces like ketchup, mayonnaise, or ranch dressing.
