Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cool running water to remove any dirt. Use a peeler to remove the skin from each potato.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

Using a sharp knife, cut each potato lengthwise into slices about 1/4 inch thick. Then cut those slices into fries of similar width to ensure even cooking.

Soaking

  1. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries into a large bowl of cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier texture.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried fries to the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pot; fry in batches if necessary.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Once cooked, remove the fries from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Transfer the seasoned fries to a serving platter or individual plates and serve hot. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!
