Main Ingredients

Caramelized Onions

Seasoning & Condiments

Method

Prepare Caramelized Onions

  1. 1

    Slice and Cook Onions

Slice the large onion thinly. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and sugar, stirring to coat.

  2. 2

    Caramelize the Onions

Cook the onions for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cook the Bacon

  1. 3

    Cook Bacon

In a skillet, cook the applewood smoked bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and let drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 4

    Form the Patty

Divide the ground beef into two equal portions, about 8 ounces each. Form each portion into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing.

  2. 5

    Season the Patty

Season both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.

  3. 6

    Cook the Patty

In the same skillet used for the bacon (or a grill), cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Vermont cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns

Optionally, toast the burger buns in the skillet or on a grill until golden brown.

  2. 9

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place the cheeseburger patty, followed by the crispy bacon, and top with a generous portion of caramelized onions. Place the top half of the bun on the burger.
