Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass and ice

Choose a highball or Collins glass (12–16 oz). Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill while you assemble the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine base ingredients

In a shaker or mixing glass, add 3 oz chilled vodka, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup. If you like a slightly briny brightness, add a very small pinch (~0.1 tsp) of sea salt. Add a couple of ice cubes to the shaker and give it a quick 5–8 second shake to chill and dilute slightly.

  3. 3

    Assemble cocktail

Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass if you prefer or leave it in. Strain the vodka-lime mixture from the shaker into the glass over fresh ice (about 3/4 full).

  4. 4

    Top with seltzer

Slowly pour 6 oz chilled grapefruit-flavored hard seltzer (High Noon-style) into the glass. Stir gently once with a bar spoon or long spoon to combine β€” about 3 gentle turns so you retain carbonation.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer.
