Saffron Infusion

Method

Saffron Infusion

  1. 1

    Prepare the Saffron Infusion

In a small bowl, combine the saffron threads with hot water. Allow the saffron to steep for at least 10 minutes to fully release its color and flavor.

Saffron Rice

  1. 2

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 3

    Sauté the Onion

In a medium pot, heat the butter or olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent and slightly golden, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Cook the Rice

Add the rinsed basmati rice to the pot with the sautéed onions. Stir for a minute to coat the rice with the oil and onion mixture.

  4. 5

    Add Broth and Saffron

Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and the saffron infusion (including the threads). Add salt to taste. Stir gently to combine.

  5. 6

    Simmer the Rice

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot with a lid and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.

  6. 7

    Fluff and Serve

Once cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm, garnished with additional saffron threads if desired.
