Method

Main Breakfast

  1. 1

    Prepare protein

Choose one protein: bacon, ham or sausage. If using bacon (2 strips): cook in a skillet over medium heat 3–5 minutes per side until browned and crisp to preference; drain on paper towel. If using ham (1 slice): heat in a skillet over medium heat 1–2 minutes per side until warmed and lightly browned. If using sausage link (1 link): cook in skillet over medium heat, turning frequently, 8–10 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and browned. Remove protein from skillet and keep warm.

  2. 2

    Cook the egg

In the same skillet (wipe out excess grease leaving about 1 tsp for flavor for frying eggs; or use a clean nonstick skillet and heat 1 tbs butter), heat over medium. Crack 1 egg into a small bowl and gently slip into skillet. Season with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper. For fried: cook 2–3 minutes until whites set for sunny-side-up, or flip and cook an additional 30–60 seconds for over-easy. For scrambled: whisk the egg first, pour into melted butter, stir gently until curds form and eggs are just set (about 1–2 minutes). Transfer egg to plate and keep warm with protein.

Toast

  1. 3

While protein or egg cooks, toast 1 slice of bread to desired darkness using a toaster or under a broiler. Immediately spread 1/2 tsp butter on the hot toast so it melts. Optionally cut toast in half or serve whole.

Assembly & Serve

  1. 4

On a plate, arrange the cooked protein beside the toast and place the egg next to them. Add ketchup, jam or hot sauce (1 tsp) on the side for dipping if desired. Serve immediately while hot.
