Method

Preparing the Corn Dogs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Hot Dogs

Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving some of the skewer exposed to hold. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix well. In another bowl, whisk together milk and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Hot Dogs

Dip each hot dog into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Corn Dogs

Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.

Preparing the Fries

  1. 6

    Cut the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes (optional) and cut them into fry shapes, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 7

    Soak the Fries

Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then drain and pat dry.

  3. 8

    Fry the Fries

In another pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Fry the potatoes in batches for about 5-7 minutes or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 9

    Season

Sprinkle the fries with salt while they are still hot.
