Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water to remove any debris. Pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Dredge the Calamari

Coat each calamari ring in the flour mixture, making sure they are evenly covered. Shake off excess flour.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Spicy Marinara Dip Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

  4. 9

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Remove the sauce from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil.
