Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until fully combined (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool and Prepare for Frosting

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.

Ice Cream Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare Ice Cream Mixture

In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 8

    Chill Mixture

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.

  3. 9

    Churn Ice Cream

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  4. 10

    Freeze Ice Cream

Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
