Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into thick strips, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide.

  2. 2

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes them crispier.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. This is important to prevent oil splattering.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the potatoes to the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot, either on their own or with your favorite dipping sauces.
