Method

Preparing the Shrimp

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook the Shrimp

Once the water is boiling, add the pound of large shrimp to the pot. Boil the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque.

  3. 3

    Chill the Shrimp

Remove the shrimp from the boiling water and immediately place them in an ice bath (a bowl filled with ice and cold water) to stop the cooking process. Let them sit for about 5 minutes until completely chilled.

  4. 4

    Peel and Devein

Once the shrimp are chilled, peel off the shells and devein them if not already done.

Making the Cocktail Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of horseradish, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 2 teaspoons of Tabasco sauce.

  2. 6

    Mix Well

Stir the mixture well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  3. 7

    Season to Taste

Add salt to taste, adjusting the seasoning according to your preference.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Shrimp

Arrange the chilled shrimp on a serving platter or individual cocktail glasses.

  2. 9

    Serve with Sauce

Serve the shrimp alongside the cocktail sauce for dipping.
