Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semisweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the melted chocolate and butter mixture as well as the vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  2. 4

    Add Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

Baking

  1. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly divide the batter among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 2/3 full. Ensure that you do not overfill them.

  2. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center remains soft.

Serving

  1. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes. Carefully run a knife around the edges to loosen the cakes, then invert onto plates. Serve immediately, allowing the molten center to flow out.
