Method

Preparation

1

Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. If preferred, peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler, though leaving the skin on can add flavor and texture.

2

Cutting the Potatoes

Using a sharp knife, cut the potatoes into thick, even slices (approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick). Then, cut those slices into strips of the same thickness to create fries.

Frying

3

Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

4

Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the cut potato strips to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-6 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

5

Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and drain them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

Serving

6

Serve Hot

Serve the hand-cut fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. They can be enjoyed plain or with your favorite dipping sauces.
