Latte base

Method

Prepare coffee

  1. 1

    Brew

Brew one strong espresso shot (about 1 shot). If you don't have an espresso machine, make 1/4 cup very strong coffee using a Moka pot, Aeropress, or concentrate and keep hot.

  2. 2

If your espresso or coffee is too concentrated or slightly cool, add up to 2 tablespoons hot water to bring it to drinking temperature and desired strength.

Combine protein and milk

  1. 3

    Dissolve protein

Place 1 scoop of protein powder in a blender, frother cup, or shaker. Add 1 cup of milk. Add 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup if using, and 1 teaspoon neutral oil if using for creaminess.

  2. 4

    Mix thoroughly

Blend on low-to-medium for 15–25 seconds, or vigorously shake for 20–30 seconds, or use a handheld milk frother until the protein is fully dissolved and the milk is slightly frothy. If the mixture is chalky, add 1–2 tablespoons more milk or water and mix again.

Assemble latte

  1. 5

Pour the blended protein milk into a warmed mug, leaving room for the espresso shot and some foam.

  2. 6

Slowly pour the hot espresso or strong coffee into the protein milk. Pouring over the back of a spoon helps preserve foam if you want a layered look.

  3. 7

If you have reserved frothed milk or foam, spoon 1–2 tablespoons on top.

Finish & serve

  1. 8

Sprinkle 1 teaspoon cocoa powder or cinnamon on top for garnish.

  2. 9

Taste and adjust sweetness; add an extra 1/2 teaspoon sweetener if desired. Serve immediately while hot.
