Method

Preparing the Burger

  1. 1

    Mix the Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until all ingredients are just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the seasoned beef into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with shredded cheddar cheese and cover to melt.

Preparing the Chili

  1. 4

    Heat the Chili

While the patties are cooking, open the can of chili and pour it into a saucepan. Heat over medium heat until warmed through, about 5-7 minutes.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Toast the Buns

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

Place each cheeseburger patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Spoon a generous amount of heated chili over each patty.

  3. 7

    Add Toppings

Top each chili cheeseburger with diced red onion and place the top half of the bun over it.
