Burger Patties

Prepare the Burger Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined. Form into 4 equal patties.

Bourbon Date and Coke Barbecue Sauce

Make the Barbecue Sauce
In a saucepan, combine chopped dates, Jim Beam bourbon, Coca-Cola, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Thicken the Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.

Roast the Garlic
Wrap the garlic bulbs in aluminum foil and roast in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, until the cloves are soft and caramelized. Let cool, then squeeze the roasted garlic out of the skins.
Garlic Basil Mayo

Make the Garlic Basil Mayo
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, chopped basil, and lemon juice. Mix well and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Burger Assembly

Add the Patties and Toppings
Place the cooked burger patties on the mayo-covered buns, top with smoked gouda, a generous spoonful of bourbon date and coke barbecue sauce, and a handful of arugula.

Cover with the top half of the buns and serve immediately.
