Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square baking pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk. Whisk until smooth and homogenous.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

If using, fold in the chocolate chips into the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
