Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel the Potatoes

Start by thoroughly washing the Russet potatoes under cold water. Peel the skins off using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut the Potatoes

Once peeled, cut the potatoes into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick to create fry shapes. Rinse the cut fries in cold water to remove excess starch.

  3. 3

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to help achieve crispiness.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a deep-frying thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

Remove the soaked fries from the water and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Fries

Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  4. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using) to taste. Toss gently to coat.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the crispy golden fries hot as a side dish or snack. Enjoy them with your favorite dipping sauces!
