Main Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Clams

  1. 1

    Cleaning the Clams

Soak the littleneck clams in a bowl of cold water for about 20 minutes to help them expel any sand. Rinse thoroughly under cold running water.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Clams

Place the cleaned clams in a large pot with about an inch of water. Cover and steam over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, or until the clams open. Discard any clams that do not open.

Making the Cocktail Sauce

  1. 3

    Combining Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 4

    Adjusting Flavor

Taste the cocktail sauce and adjust seasoning to your preference, adding more horseradish for heat or more ketchup for sweetness if desired.

Serving

  1. 5

    Plating

Serve the steamed littleneck clams on a platter, with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the clams.

  2. 6

    Accompanying Sauce

Place the cocktail sauce in a small bowl on the platter alongside the clams for dipping.
