Marinara Sauce

Method

Cheese Sticks Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick first into the flour, ensuring it's fully coated, then into the egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture. Ensure a thorough coating for a crispy texture.

  3. 3

    Freeze the Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour to help the coating adhere during frying.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  3. 6

    Finish the Sauce

Add fresh basil leaves to the sauce just before serving for added freshness and flavor.

Frying the Cheese Sticks

  1. 7

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use enough oil to fully submerge the cheese sticks.

  2. 8

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  3. 9

    Drain and Serve

Remove the mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side.
