Method
Preparation
- 1
Cook the Meat
In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or shredded chicken. Cook until browned (for beef) or heated through (for chicken), about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- 2
Add Taco Seasoning
Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked meat. Add a splash of water (about 2 tablespoons) to help distribute the seasoning. Stir well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until combined.
- 3
Chop Vegetables
While the meat is cooking, chop the green pepper, onion, tomato, and lettuce. Slice the jalapenos and set aside.
- 4
Prepare the Cheese Sauce
If using store-bought nacho cheese sauce, heat it according to package instructions. If making from scratch, prepare your desired cheese sauce.
Assembly
- 5
Layer the Chips
On a large serving platter or baking sheet, spread a generous layer of tortilla chips across the bottom.
- 6
Add Meat
Top the chips with the seasoned meat mixture, ensuring even coverage.
- 7
Add Vegetables
Sprinkle the chopped green peppers, onions, tomatoes, and black olives over the meat. Add jalapenos to your preference.
- 8
Add Cheese and Sauces
Pour the nacho cheese sauce evenly over the top and sprinkle mozzarella cheese generously over everything.
Baking
- 9
Bake the Nachos
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the assembled nachos in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serving
- 10
Garnish and Serve
Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve with salsa and sour cream on the side for dipping.
