Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape and Bake
- 4
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 5
Shape the Sticks
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into sticks approximately 1 inch wide.
- 6
Add Cheese Topping
Place the sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning evenly over the top.
- 7
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 8
Cook the Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and let simmer for 10 minutes.
