Preparation
- 1
Slice the Protein
If using beef, slice it thinly against the grain. If using chicken, slice it into thin strips.
- 2
Prepare the Vegetables
Slice the onion and bell peppers into thin strips. Set aside.
Cooking
- 3
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 4
Cook the Protein
Push the sautéed vegetables to one side of the skillet. Add the sliced beef or chicken to the other side. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the protein is cooked through, stirring occasionally to combine with the vegetables.
- 5
Melt the Cheese
Once the protein is cooked, lay the slices of Swiss cheese over the top and cover the skillet with a lid. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Assembly
- 6
Toast the Bread
While the cheese is melting, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the French bread lengthwise and place it in the oven for about 5 minutes until lightly toasted.
- 7
Assemble the Sandwich
Remove the toasted bread from the oven. Spoon the beef or chicken mixture with melted cheese onto the bread. Close the sandwich and cut it in half if desired.
