Method

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Patty Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or chicken with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) is reached for chicken or 160°F (71°C) for beef.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 6

    Prepare the Guacamole

If you are making your own guacamole, mash avocados and mix with lime juice, salt, and diced onions to taste.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Chilies

If using fresh green chilies, roast them over an open flame or under a broiler until charred. Peel and chop finely.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns (optional)

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 9

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, the cooked patty with melted cheese, guacamole, roasted green chilies, and tomato slices.

  3. 10

    Top it Off

Place the top half of the bun over the assembled ingredients and serve immediately.
